Newcastle has recently transformed itself into a hipster capital, bursting with art galleries, restaurants, and trendy bars. It is one of Britain’s most popular destinations for hen and stag nights, and is all about the wild and crazy nightlife. Newcastle is all about the Quayside, where you can find the famous Tyne Bridges and the remaining parts of 17th century Newcastle, including Bessie Surtee’s house. A good walk is to cross the Millenium Bridge into Gateshead and check out Baltic for art and the Sage for music. You can also hop on a bus out to the Ouseburn Valley to visit the Biscuit Factory for contemporary artwork and, for kids, the Seven Stories center for children’s books. Back in the elegant Victorian center, you can visit the Laing Art Gallery and the Life Science Center. One of the best things to do if you have time is take the bus south through Gateshead to the Angel of the North statue towering at 20 meters high.
